The benefits of sketching varies and are visual brain storms in most cases. The amount of time that goes into a sketch tends to be shorter then a drawing which eventually leads up to the final drawing. Sometimes we may have five or more sketches to translate over to a drawing or painting. Often sketching is the tool to wake are senses and get the creative juices flowing.
However, the importance of sketching from life is essential to build the practice needed to draw with confidence and to develop the eye too; hand coordination , then later (after good practice) to gather the ability to translate this skill to any surface size as you wish.
Drawing and Sketching is the standard and most fundamental art, it and has been for eons. This is the tool which depicted illustrations in caves,on walls, the manner engineers illustrated blue prints for artchitecture,sculptors started out with sketch,and the list goes on... . During this day and age drawing is mostly expressed as a form of art in various mediums. Sketching remains the same, as a tool to generate a plan for a drawing,but sometimes sketches are really fine or creative and therefore in itself a work of art.
